Part 2 continues the journey through southern Africa’s varied antelope country, beginning in South Luangwa National Park in Zambia before moving to the green-season landscapes of Botswana’s Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the arid expanses of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and the woodlands of Sabi Sand Nature Reserve in South Africa.
This gallery brings together photographs by Alexandra George and Steve Segall. The species represented include bushbuck, greater kudu, impala, red hartebeest, springbok and waterbuck. Herds grazing across open country are seen alongside animals sheltering in shade, feeding beneath trees or watching quietly from woodland cover.
Oryx appear repeatedly in contrasting settings: gathered across the green plains of the Central Kalahari, standing beneath acacias and reclining on the pale sands of the Kgalagadi. Elsewhere, intimate portraits reveal the markings and character of springbok, bushbuck and waterbuck, while mixed gatherings show different antelope species sharing the same habitat.
The opening photographs from South Luangwa capture two memorable encounters: three greater kudu emerging from the woodland and a young impala feeding on a fallen red flower from a sausage tree, with another flower caught on its horn. Together, the photographs show how habitat, season, feeding and encounters with other animals shape the lives of southern Africa’s antelopes.
