We’re thrilled to share the news that the Wilden Trust have won the Wilderness Impact Challenge 2025, securing $100,000 in funding for their groundbreaking BioBoundary Project.
The Wilden Trust’s BioBoundary Project is closely linked to the Botswana Predator Conservation Trust (BPCT) through their collaborative efforts to mitigate human-wildlife conflict, particularly involving African wild dogs.
Chosen from over 140 innovative proposals, the BioBoundary Project stood out for its bold vision and potential for lasting change. This pioneering initiative uses scent-marking technologies to establish “bio-boundaries” that reduce human-wildlife conflict and protect endangered species—especially the African wild dog.
As someone who has witnessed the extraordinary work of Peter Brack, Field Coordinator, BPCT Wild Dog Project firsthand during my time in the Okavango, I can’t think of a more deserving project. My book Nine Days in Eden is dedicated in part to the story of these remarkable wild dogs. Indeed, two packs from the Wild Dog Project are featured in two Photo Tales. This award brings new hope for their future.
🐾 I’m especially grateful to Peter Brack, BPCT, who joined our Wildlife Worldwide group at Mme Dinare in June 2023 to speak about their important Wild Dog Project. On the second day of our visit to the den site, Peter accompanied our group and spent the entire morning with us, sharing insights into the pack’s history, behaviour and personalities. It was a rare privilege to witness these endangered animals through the eyes of someone so deeply committed to their protection.
🌍💚 Bravo to the teams at BPCT and Wilden Trust! Your work continues to inspire.
